In the News: Bulgaria ready to join the fight against the Islamists and has good reasons to do so >>Копирано от standartnews.com<<

Sofia sees the Islamic State group as very dangerous for Bulgaria and the EU, especially because it involves extremists who have European passports and funding sources from the oil industry.

Also, Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announced that it had already decided to establish an Islamic caliphate in Europe and the first country in the Balkans where they would unfurl the great black flag would be Bulgaria. First, because of its excellent strategic position, and secondly because of the thousands of followers and many Muslims who are just waiting for a signal from their leaders to sacrifice their lives in the name of Allah.

But this week has also shown that local Muslims in Bulgaria do not share this idea. In a sharp statement, the Chief Mufti of the Muslim religion in Bulgaria said that the conduct of the pseudo-state formation Islamic State cannot be identified with the dictates of the Holy Islamic religion that are dramatically different.

6)    A dark demonic force has been unleashed by Islamic militants in Syria and Iraq that has resulted in the brutal killings of all that do not agree with them. Nations of the world are forming a coalition to combat this evil. Pray for Bulgaria as they take this step to provide help.
7)    This evil group has declared Bulgaria as their prime target in Europe. Let’s pray that the Bulgarian Christians would intercede and ask the Lord to erect an alter in the spirit that blocks that spirit of death.
8)    Let us thank the Lord for the boldness of the Muslim leadership in Bulgaria and their willingness to stand up for what is right. Let us pray for their protection because local sympathizers may try to lash out at them.
9)    Bulgarians and Turks have had ethnic problems for centuries. Pray that these two groups will dismiss their differences and stand united against this evil coming out of the middle east.

Personal Note:
·    Last week I did not get this prayer directive out due to conflicts with scheduling on my part.
·    I do ask for your prays for Zuzanna and I this week as we travel to Barcelona, Spain to participate in a conference on evangelism toward/in Europe.
·    Thanks for praying for the Balkans and thanks for praying for us. We feel your prayers and diligently work to be your hands extended.

Pray for Macedonia

Week of Oct.7-13, 1913

In the News: Mother Teresa finds prominence among Balkans

SKOPJE, Macedonia: The world's greatest modern-day saint - Mother Teresa is all set to come alive in her home town.

The prime minister of Macedonia has decided to name Balkan region's longest and most important highway after the founder of Missionaries of Charity.

As part of the government's plan to familiarize people of the entire region with Mother Teresa - who was born … in Skopje on August 26, 1910 with her family being of Albanian descent, Bronze plaques with her teaching are being drilled into prominent buildings and busy side walks across town.

The government is also giving thought to a proposal whether Mother Teresa's picture can be put on the currency note.

A massive 60 feet statue of the greatest humanitarian of modern times is also coming up in one of the city's main boulevards,…

According to the Nobel Institute that awarded Mother Teresa the Nobel peace prize, Mother Teresa felt a strong calling from God at the age of 12 and knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ.

Mother Teresa exemplifies the strong humanitarian efforts and heart of the Catholic Church. We must applaud the Catholics and their work with the poor. At age 12 Mother Teresa knew she had to spread the love of Christ and she was successful. On one of her rear visits to the White House, Mother Teresa boldly told President Clinton that he needed to stand up against abortion in America.

Let us pray:
1.    Lord, we ask You to bless the Macedonian government for making Mother Teresa and her teaching an important symbol in the country.
2.    May her statue, bronze plaques with her teaching on prominent buildings and the highway named after her, be an inspiration to Macedonia. May Mother Teresa be a role model to a new generation and her values be a guide to many.
3.    Let us pray that parents and teachers will present Mother Teresa as she was. An example of Jesus.
4.    Lord we pray that Macedonia and the Balkans, would be blessed in return as a result of Mother Teresa’s labor among the poor.  Macedonia’s population living below the poverty level is 30.4% vs. India’s 29.8% and is highest among all 12 Balkan countries (CIA Fact Sheet). Lord, provide much needed Humanitarian Aid to Macedonia and the region.

In the News: Bulgarian and Albanian 'historians' gather to negate Macedonian history - end up fighting each other ...

A 'scientific' conference in Struga was organized by Albanian and Bulgar[ian] 'historians'  to commemorate a Struga/Debar revolt against the Serb army in 1913. According to the organizers of the meeting, it was Albanians and Bulgars who organized the revolt.  Joining the conference were professors from Sofia, Pristina and Tetovo.

What should have been a happy occasion for the Bulgars and Albanians in negating Macedonian history quickly turned into a nasty verbal fight between the two sides.

According to the Albanians it was them who organized and led the revolt, but the representatives from Sofia thought otherwise and claimed it was them who organized the revolt.

The verbal insults came close to a fist fight after Bulgarian representatives started mocking their Albanian colleagues about their contribution to the revolt.

I’m sure many Macedonians are laughing over this but there is a sad reality behind this dispute. Ethnic hatred is a curse all across the Balkans. All you have to do is go on Facebook or Twitter and read the continuing hatred fired back and forth. The key to the healing of those nations will be found in these people groups acknowledging the wrongs they inflected on others and repenting to one another.

5.    This is a prayer subject that goes deep. There are wrongs that go back over a thousand years that have never been set right. Let us pray for the people groups to recognize these wrongs, recant, repent and decide to forgive.
6.    Some say it will take generations to heal these hatreds but let us pray that God will do a quick work. God can change hearts in a moment.  We can pray and believe for a “great awaking” in the Balkans.
7.    May the Holy Spirit go across the Balkans into every church, every born again believer’s heart and every pastor to lead them in repentance for their respective nations.
8.    What if national repentance started in Macedonia? Let us pray that Macedonian Christians would examine their hearts and carry repentance across the Balkans. What if the glorification of Mother Teresa (whom was ethnically Albanian) could be the trip-line to spiritual change in Macedonia?
9.    As intercessors, ask the Lord for His heart for the Balkan people and the pain they live with.

Zechariah 1:1-3
In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,  “The Lord has been very angry with your fathers.  Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.

Pray for Bulgaria

Week of Sept. 9-15, 2013

On September 6, Bulgaria celebrates the unification of the northern Rumelia with southern Bulgaria in the year 1885.
Bulgaria marks 128th anniversary of its Unification
06 September 2013 | 18:09 / FOCUS News Agency / Bulgaria

Sofia. The central celebrations for the 128th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Unification kick off at 8:30 p.m. local time on Friday in the southern city of Plovdiv. President Rosen Plevneliev and Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski will be there. In the morning metropolitan bishop Nikolay of Plovdiv held a public prayer. Representatives of the local authorities, MPs and citizens arrived in the church. In his speech metropolitan bishop Nikolay said that on Bulgaria’s Unification Day the politicians in power in Bulgaria were split. Hate has gripped the society and love, faith in God and values are the only counteraction, he said.
After the church service wreaths and flowers were laid to the monument to Zahari Stoyanov.
"The unification we celebrate today is a result of the nation’s own efforts and the persistency of a fair cause," Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova said at the ceremony marking the 128th anniversary of Bulgaria’s Unification.
6 September 1885 is the date that tells us we should do the most important task on our own, without delays and hesitation. We should not forget that only united we can face the difficulties on our mutual path, she added.

According to her a nation celebrating its unification has strength and wisdom to respond to any attempt to divide citizens.
She also called for not forgetting our ancestors' wisdom and the lessons of history.

She thanked the representatives of patriotic organizations, military organizations, veterans, reserve officers, because, she said, "they are always on the forefront and always convey their spirits to the young." http://www.focus-fen.net/index.php?id=n314379
1) It is important to note what the Orthodox Metropolitan Bishop Nikolay said, "Hate has gripped the society and love, faith in God and values are the only counteraction". Let us pray for Bulgarians to take to heart these words of the bishop.
2) Lord, we hope for the day when Bulgarians are unified around love for one another, faith in God and walking in righteous values.
3) More than 80% of Bulgarians claim to be Orthodox, however only 1% regularly participates in the life of the church. The years of communist atheism has left Bulgarians very skeptical of Christianity. Let’s pray for steps to reverse spiritual apathy in Bulgaria.
4) Lord, we ask that You remind the Bulgarian people of the reality of eternity. May they question their future and realize their need for a God of justice.
5) May the bishop’s words be a prophetic call to trust in God not government.
6) The mayor of Sofia asked for "strength and wisdom to respond to any attempt to divide citizens." In the sphere of Bulgarian government, we pray for wisdom to rule over emotions so a united front can build confidence in the people.
7) It is estimated that there are 2% evangelicals in Bulgaria; this is higher than most Balkan countries. Let us thank the Lord for the rise of evangelicals in the past twenty years. May they be in unity and press forward to see many more saved in Bulgaria.
8) About 12% of Bulgarians are Muslim. Let us pray for missionaries to be sent to the Muslim population. (I encourage you to read a short story of Hari and his wife, Penka Atanasovi http://blog.bibleleague.ca/tag/evangelism-bulgaria/ They are reaching Muslims in northern Bulgaria)

Thanks for praying for Bulgaria. Please leave a Comment or Reaction so we will know you Prayed.

Pray for Bulgaria

Week of March 4-10, 2013

Operation Capitals of Europe is an organization set up to hold prayer and intercessory events in the capital cities of Europe. They just completed a four day prayer event in Sophia, Bulgaria. Following is a report from that meeting.
OCE in Sofia 20-24 Feb. 2013

The most dramatic event occurred on the day of arrival into Sofia; the Government of Bulgaria resigned, after much turmoil in the country, which led to conflicts with the Police and bloodshed.

We perceived the timing of the event as the Voice of the Lord saying “this is the timing for a shift in government”, meaning, also in matters pertaining to the Body of Christ and its leaders. No wonder our host Pastor, Pavel Ignatov, had also resigned a few days earlier, from a position he has had as leader of many churches in Bulgaria. Further, on Sunday 24 Feb. the Orthodox Church of Bulgaria was scheduled to elect their new Patriarch!

When the event of the OCE in Sofia was decided a year earlier, we had had no knowledge, and none could predict, that it would be God’s timing for a major shift in the heavenly places, causing major shifts in positions of government on the earth. As Pastor Pavel Ignatov repeatedly said, that was a “a sign from God” that the Operation Capitals of Europe in Sofia was an event for which God sent His servants to perform His good will in Bulgaria.

We give thanks to the Lord for Philip Rashev who did all the hard work for the OCE in Sofia, and involved his Pastor Pavel Ignatov and their church. Thanks to them several Pastors attended. On the opening meeting 10 Bulgarian Pastors came to the platform to lead prayer for their country.

Philip also organized prayer for Sofia to be held on Mount Vitosha, overlooking the city. That memorable event was held on Saturday morning. Even though Vitosha was covered in snow, the Lord granted us good weather that day so we could reach the place where we could pray from.

We also prayed a lot for the foundations of the city. It's not a coincidence as the government did a lot of road and city building the recent years, they uncovered the foundations of the ancient city which was called Serdika. As the physical often is a reflection of the spiritual, we saw this as a sign. We prayed often Isaiah 62:1-6, praying for the new name and identity as God sees the city to come forth. We also prayed and declared Psalm 24 for the Government and in front of the main entrance door; that Jesus, the King of Glory may come in there!

The event was closed with a celebration lunch after Sunday church service in Sofia, before the OCE team and 3 Bulgarian friends drove off to Skopje.

An awesome testimony of God’s power released through the OCE in Sofia became known to us on Sunday 3 March, through a Bulgarian sister who has been praying for the salvation of her family. Two ladies in Bulgaria suddenly opened their hearts to Jesus and started praying and reading the Bible, as each one separately had a divine visitation on Friday 22 March. That was the 2nd day of our prayers in Sofia, and more specifically, the day we prayer-walked in the center of the city!
www.oceprayer.com

LET US PRAY:
1.    Thank You, Jesus, for moving OCE to have this prayer event at this critical time in Bulgaria’s history. Let us seal the prayers that were prayed in Sophia, asking the Lord to guard the spiritual stones that were set in place.
2.    Let us pray for those that gave of their time to go and pray. Lord, we ask You to guard them as they have returned to their homes and occupations. Protect them from the enemy who would now like to stir up doubt and insignificance.
3.    Lord, we thank You for encouraging the evangelical pastors in Bulgaria.
4.    An extra measure of dominion was granted by these acts of obedience. May they seize upon the open window in heaven and receive from the Lord His blessings for their country.

It is a time of trouble for Bulgaria. If you have time read the following link: http://www.pri.org/stories/politics-society/religion/bulgaria-chooses-new-religious-leader-with-complex-past-13086.html

There is no moral compass for the Bulgarian people. With the Bulgarian Orthodox church compromising with the communist government for many years and even now the people feel the church is compromising with the present corrupt government.

5.    Lord, the government is in disorder, so we pray for order and peace. Let us pray for men and women of peace to step into the void.
6.    Let us pray for revival in Bulgaria. There is emptiness in the hearts of Bulgarians and we know the Gospel is the solution.
7.    It is time for the Truth to be spoken to the Bulgarian people. Lord, let the Gospel go forth in the media. Lord, we pray for a reordering of the public news outlets. Lord, move your redeemed ones, those having a Christian worldview, into the media of Bulgaria.
8.    Let us pray for a move-of-God among the print and broadcast media of Bulgaria. Let us pray that many in the media would get saved.  May the intercessors of Bulgaria press forward on this media issue.
9.    Holy Spirit, come quickly on behalf of Bulgaria; The Lord’s wisdom is the solution for the confusion.

Pray for Bulgaria
Week of May 11-17,2012

Let us confront the enemy.

1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

In the news: Vampire Hype to Boost Bulgaria's Tourism

People on three continents are excited about Bulgarian vampires in the wake of local archeologists claiming to have found a vampire skeleton in the Black Sea town of Sozopol.

The skeleton is believed to be about 700 years old. In the past, because of the fear of vampires, sometimes deceased loved ones were buried with a spike pierced through their chest, believing that would keep them from coming back to life to terrorize the villages.

You might say, well that was 700 years ago, surely no one believes in those myths today. Perhaps, however we do know the devil has a way of changing his techniques of witchcraft in order to keep a country enslaved from generation to generation.

Surva International Festival of the Masquerade – In the city of Pernik, about 20 Kilometers from Sofia, there is a festival held every year in January that is much like Mardi-Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana. It has its roots in the Dionysian Mysteries. The Dionysian Mysteries were a ritual of ancient Greece which used intoxicants and other trance-inducing techniques (like dance and music) to remove inhibitions and social constraints, liberating the individual to return to a [so called] natural state.

Recently there was a 5.8-6.0-magnitude earthquake in Bulgaria and the epicenter was Pernik. There were no deaths but there was damage. http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=139746

IN the news: Bulgarian Officials Persecute Pastor over Homeschooling
http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=140046
Authorities in the former communist nation of Bulgaria are reportedly persecuting a pastor and his family over their decision to homeschool, prompting an international outcry among home-education advocates who are calling on officials involved in the growing scandal to drop the case immediately. The matter is even more urgent now as the father has been threatened with criminal charges of "child abuse" for removing his son from government school, according to activist groups and news reports.

1. Let us pray for Bulgaria, asking for the Lord to look down upon that land.

2. First Lord, we ask that the Christians of Bulgaria would seek You with all their hearts. Lord, we pray that a hunger for Your ways would burn within the people.

3. Lord, were You in the earthquake?

Job 37:4 After it a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard.

Joel 3:16

The LORD also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the LORD will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.

4. Lord, we thank You for the report that Christians are taking Bibles to the quake victims. Lord, let an angel accompany each Bible, protecting it and blessing the house it is in. Let us pray that these Bibles will be read. Holy Spirit, we know You will teach and soften hearts.

5. James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Lord as we submit to You we want to resist the plans of the devil over Bulgaria. We rebuke him in Your name, Lord Jesus.

6. Lord, show Your saints how to do battle against the enemy. Empower them to stand and proclaim the promises of our God in the enemies face. If the enemy can organize and empower festivals then why can’t the Lord’s people gather and in unity rebuke such unrighteousness? [ I don’t know the laws in Bulgaria concerning Christian expression on the streets but I see in my spirit organized Christians going into this Masquerade festival and being very vocal for Jesus.]

7. Lord, we rebuke the vampire spirit. The enemy would like to use this, so we pray that the popularity of this story would diminish.

8. Let us pray for the right of Christians to homeschool their children in Bulgaria. May the laws guaranty this right and that there would be cooperation and acceptance on the part of the public schools.

Pray for Bulgaria

First I would like to invite you to visit Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia by taking a Virtual Prayer Walk. http://pray4bulgaria.wordpress.com/virtual-prayer-walks/ If you do take this VPW you will learn of many things to pray about, not only in the city but throughout the country also. Bellow I have selected some highlights I think we should give extra prayer to.

Casinos are prominent throughout Sofia, offering an escape from daily life and the (false) promise of a quick financial gain.

1) Let us pray that the Lord would rescue many Bulgarians from the false hope the enemy offers. Gambling is a curse on any society. Let us pray that not only would these casinos fail but that the owners and workers would learn of the real hope the Lord offers.

2) It is sad to me as a Texan to know that “Texas Hold’em” is becoming a favorite tool of the enemy. Lord, we pray that You would command a blessing from Texas to Bulgaria.

3) Let us pray that a ministry will be raised up that concentrates on counseling and delivering Bulgarians from the gambling spirit.

We have prayed about this before but Let us again pray against corruption in government and in the marketplace.

4) Let us start by praying for righteous judges, men and women willing to stand up and do what is right.

5) Let us pray that the Mafia of Bulgaria would actually turn against itself. As they say “there is no trust among thieves”. May their empires fall apart due to infighting and a lack of trust.

6) The opposite of corruption is righteousness. Bulgaria needs revival and a return to Biblical truth. Lord, visit Bulgaria with humility followed by grace.

There are people in Bulgaria that are seriously praying for church growth. They have designed a church planting strategy that works to find “people of peace” to sew into.

7) Lord, we pray for these dear saints/intercessors that have been deeply burdened for their country. As they abide under Your wings, Lord, may they be blessed with intimate times spent in Your presence. Lead them to the people of peace.

8) We pray for these people of peace to be revealed. Let us pray that a hedge of protection will surround them and they will be delivered from the enemies grip.
Job 1:10 (KJV)
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

9) Let us pray for a day when every city and every village in Bulgaria has an evangelical body of believers.

Please leave a Comment or Reaction so we will know you prayed.

Pray for Bulgaria
Here is something really rare. A unique picture of inter-religious tolerance can be viewed in a Northeastern Bulgarian village called Kamburovo, with local Muslims working to rebuild a church. Read More at, http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=131721

This is a unique area of Bulgaria where the Christians and Muslims live comfortably in peace respecting each other’s traditions and even celebrating each other’s feast and holy days.

1)    Lord we pray that this peace will continue and spread throughout all Bulgaria. May the Christians reach out with love and may the Muslims continue to reject radical Islam.

2)    The Muslims will only be won by the love of Jesus. Let us pray that the Christians be given innovative ways to be a blessing to the Muslim people in Bulgaria and around the world. Lord raise up non-confrontive Christians, with a “love anointing” to reach out to Muslims. May they appeal to the God given peaceful desires of the human heart.

Now for the present tragedy in Bulgaria -

There has been much tension in Bulgaria for the past week. There was an incident that has fueled ethnic hatred between Bulgarians and the Roma (Gypsy) minority. A Bulgarian young man (19 yrs. old) was believed to have been intentionally run over by a minivan. The van being driven by an associate of notorious Roma mafia boss Kiril Rashkov. Bulgarians have been having mass rallies in many cities across the country protesting the incident and venting their hatred of the Roma minority.

The father of the victim insisted his son had been deliberately murdered, while the occupants of the minibus took refuge in the home of "King Kiro," before forcing their way through an improvised roadblock that had been set up by local people, injuring other villagers in the process. Having been joined by hardcore supporters of Plovdiv football club, the inhabitants of Katounitsa then set about burning and looting houses belonging to the Rachkov clan.

On Monday and Tuesday night, protests followed in many major Bulgarian cities, including the capital Sofia. Nearly 300 people in total were arrested by the police after the two nights of rallies that unfortunately involved what has been perceived as ethnic hatred.

3)    Let us pray for God’s peace. Ethnic strife is not good for Bulgaria. We pray for wise and respected leaders to stand up and sooth the fears of the protesters.

4)    Lord, help the Christians to have clean hearts in this mater. May the churches of Bulgaria reject violence, and only speak words of peace to both sides.

5)    May this be a wakeup call to the Christians to pray for Bulgaria. Lord, raise up intercessors that will seek for Your peace to prevail.

Sadly, corruption is not limited to business and politics, Research done in 2007 found that 40 percent of Bulgarians believe that high levels of corruption also exist in the healthcare industry. (“Economic Program History 2007”, Center for the Study of Democracy, www.csd.bg/artShow.php?id=9262)

6)    Corruption is a bad problem in Bulgaria. We have prayed against corruption in Bulgaria before. The word I have for prayer, is “stumble”. Lord we pray that those involved in corruption would stumble over their own miss-deeds. Lord, set a trap.

7)    Let us pray for a healthy sense of shame in the Bulgarian society. May those involved in corruption be convicted until they cry out to God for relief. Lord convict those in government: from local magistrates to the very president and prime minister, those crooked doctors and hospital administrators, also the street thugs and the thugs living in mansions.

8)    Lord, help the honest Bulgarians to maintain hope and integrity in the face of corruption.

9)    Let us pray for the presidential and municipal elections on October 23. Righteousness or non-righteousness of a nation is usually reflected in its leaders. May servants not crooks be elected on election day.

Pray for Bulgaria

Bulgarians are really wonderful people. Of all the Slavic people, their history can be traced further back in time. But Bulgaria has some deep wounds that only God can heal.

Deception
Bulgarians have an unfortunate history of being deceived and lied to by foreign powers and, at times, even their own leaders. Over-all, anyone in politics is considered untrustworthy and this translates into apathy among the general public. A Bulgarian saying is “You can trust dogs, but you can’t trust people.”

1) Bulgaria has always been surrounded by more powerful nations. Bulgaria has been dictated to and what we call “bullied”. Let us pray for a sure foundation. Lord, help Bulgaria stand its ground in the mist of the nations.
2) Bulgaria has been content to eat the crumbs from the master’s table, now it is time for Bulgaria to sit at the table and eat off the good china.
3) The surest way to reverse a curse is to do the opposite of the curse; do the right thing. Righteousness needs to arise in Bulgaria. Let us pray that at all levels of Bulgarian society truth would be proclaimed and lies exposed.
a. Let the farmer give a true measurement.
b. May one neighbor not look on his neighbors with suspicion.
c. Lord, raise up righteous politicians that will strive to build trust among the people.
4) Lord, we pray that Christians would lead this transformation in Bulgaria. Actually it is only biblical truth that can stimulate righteousness and justice, therefore bringing trust among men.
Greed
Because dominating world powers came, took what they wanted and did not give back, the Bulgarians took upon themselves this same nature of greed. Even today greed is evidenced through business people that tear down historic buildings in order to build modern/profitable buildings.

5) Let us pray that greed would be replaced by men and women of integrity and generosity. Lord, show them the value of freely giving of their time, finances and ideas.
6) Lord, open their eyes to see how greed destroys relationships and causes disunity.
7) Lord, help Bulgarians to see and feel eternity in their hearts. The things of this world are temporal and will just fade away.
8) Let us pray for the Christians to step out in faith and give. Lord, You promised to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing on those that give. May there be an abundance of giving in the churches this year.
2 Samuel 22:21
“The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me."

9) Let us remember the children of Bulgaria. Let the Holy Spirit move upon their generation. May they grow up in true freedom; released from yokes of bondage in their souls.
10) Let us pray for pastors, church workers and volunteers as they prepare for the summer youth camps. Many children have been saved in these summer camps, so we pray for a double, triple portion this year.

Pray for Bulgaria

* Please leave a comment or reaction at the end of this article.*

Varna, Bulgaria, an important Black Sea port city, is a very popular vacation spot. Having a population of about 350,000, it attracts about 4.5 million tourist each year. The city has been fortunate, even in the present world economic down-turn, to be financially strong. I have no Christian contacts in this Bulgarian city and do not know the spiritual climate, but felt we should pray for this key city.
This city is believed to have been visited by Christian disciples as early as 57 BC. So there has to be redemptive seeds in the cities’ DNA.
1) Lord, we ask for an out-pouring of Your love on Varna, Bulgaria.
2) Lord, we ask for a bubbling over of Your joy in the Christians there.
3) Lord, raise up men and women of vision, wisdom and boldness. Give them a heart for Your purposes in Varna.
4) Let us pray for a ministry that reaches out to the tourist.

5) There is a Ministry to the Bulgarian Military that works with the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains. They provide a spiritual presence to the Bulgarian Army and the police. Let us pray for their ministry to reach men and women in uniform.

I am not sure who did the following survey but I found it on a Bulgarian Church website. It is sad to see that prayer, fasting and standing under persecution are not mentioned. Humbleness is considered but it is at the bottom.

Spirituality is defined by church members as:
Walking in the Spirit (40%)
Closeness to God (31%)
Operating under the gifts of the Spirit (11%)
Love toward neighbor (10%)
Works of faith (5%)
Care for widows and orphans (2%)
Humbleness (1%)

6) Lord, we all need to pray and fast so we may be able to then walk in humility. Let us pray that the Bulgarian church would learn that prayer is necessary before they try to walk in the spirit or love their neighbor.
7) Let us pray for the teenagers in Bulgaria. Western culture is rushing in with its brand of decadence, so let’s pray that their eyes would be opened to the destruction of lustful pleasure.
8) Let us pray for the school system of Bulgaria, asking the Lord to put it in the hearts of administrators to let the Gospel be taught.
9) As both parents are choosing to work, the children are being somewhat neglected. Let us pray that the parents would be diligent in guiding their children around the pitfalls of life.
